DIET PILLS? are they really safe?

Diet Pills available over the counter (OTC) contain a combination of medications, usually phenylpropanolamine (PPA) and caffeine, which act to control appetite. The active agent in these medications, PPA, is a central nervous system stimulant and has many effects on the body, one of which is to depress the desire to eat. Caffeine, also a stimulant, results in increased alertness and decreased drowsiness and fatigue when taken in low doses (50-200 mg). Caffeine also has some weak appetite-suppressant properties.
Recently, the effectiveness of PPA-based diet pills as weight control agents has bee questioned. Studies show that although PPA may act on the brain to depress appetite, this effect is minimal, and PPA can produce some serious side effects, such as high blood pressure, nausea, restlessness, anxiety, insomnia, irritability, and hallucinations.
Caffeine also affects circulatory function and has unpredictable effect on blood pressure. Because overweight people run a higher risk of hypertension, using PPA-based diet pills in the recommended dosages may seriously damage health, especially in those people who are unaware.

Losing weight with Green tea

Green tea is rich in flavonoids, a group of plant pigments commonly known as bioflavonoids. Flavonoids function as antioxidants, protecting the body against some types of cancer; evidence that a subclass of flavonoids called "tea catechins" helps control fat oxidation suggests that green tea may play a role in weight management. The tea is usually brewed using 1 or 2 teasppons of dried tea in a cup of boiling water. Green tea extracts are also available in capsule form.

Want to lose weight fast?

If you have just a little weight to lose, and want to take it off fast (say, so you can fit into those great pants for your cousin's wedding), there are a number of diets that you can use. Most of these wouldn't be recommended for long-term weight loss, as they substantially restrict your intake of some essential nutrients, so using them habitually may not be healthy. But if you're normal diet is healthy, and you just want a quick boost to drop 8-10 pounds quickly, or to kick off a new diet with a bang, the Cabbage Soup Diet actually works.

The cabbage soup diet has been around for nearly 30 years. It's based on the notion that your body actually uses more calories to digest cabbage than the amount that it derives from cabbage. It's a so-called 'negative calorie diet', and includes many foods that, like cabbage, are high in fiber and very low in calories. The base of the cabbage soup diet is - what else? Cabbage soup. There are several recipes for cabbage soup available. Essentially, the soup is made with onions, peppers, mushrooms, carrots, cabbage, celery and spices to taste. You'll be eating the soup every day - as much of it as you want.

In addition, there is a seven day routine of foods to supplement the cabbage soup. Day One: All the fruit you want (except bananas) along with all the soup that you want. No caffeinated beverages or sodas. Drink only water, tea and cranberry juice. Day Two: Eat all the vegetables that you want, but avoid dried beans, peas and corn. Eat veggies raw, fresh or cooked. No fats, no sauces, no butter. At dinner, you may have one baked potato with butter - and of course, all the cabbage soup that you want! Day Three: Eat all the fruits and veggies that you want from day two and day three - but NO baked potato. Day Four: Bananas and skim milk - yes, all the skim milk you want, plus up to eight bananas, along with -- you guessed it, all the cabbage soup you want. Day Five: Eat ten to twenty ounces of beef (or skinless chicken, or broiled fish). Drink at least 10 glasses of water, and eat up to six fresh tomatoes. (if you substitute for the beef today, you may not tomorrow) Day Six: Eat all the beef, vegetables and cabbage soup that you want. No baked potato. Lots of leafy green vegetables. Day Seven: You can have all the unsweetened fruit juices, brown rice, and vegetables that you want - and at least one bowl of soup. That's it. Remember - this diet is NOT recommended for long term weight loss, or long term use. It doesn't contain enough complex carbohydrates to be healthy for longer than a few days. But if you just need a jump-start or a quick fix, it's a good way to pick up the pace for a week.

Drink water to lose weight

Does drinking more water really help dieting? A small study says it may help you burn a few more calories each day. How many? About 50 calories per liter or quart of water. About 25 calories per water bottle-full of water.

Drinking a big glass of water whenever you feel hungry and before a meal or snack fills the stomach briefly and makes you feel fuller and stop eating sooner.
Breaking down body fat and body muscle during weight loss produces wastes that must be eliminated through the kidneys. Drinking enough water is important to keep the kidneys functioning to remove these wastes.

Are you confused by all the different techniques for tightening your tummy? Here are some exercises , to get flatter tummy:

Acne : cause and treatment

Causes of acne:
The exact cause of acne is unknown, but doctors believe it results from several related factors. One important factor is rising hormone levels. These hormones, called androgens (male sex hormones), increase in both boys and girls during puberty and can cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and make more sebum. Another factor is heredity or genetics. Researchers believe that the tendency to develop acne can be inherited from parents. For example, studies have shown that many school-age boys with acne have a family history of the disorder.

Treatment of acne:
1.The first and perhaps most obvious homemade acne treatment is the consumption of water. This will promote healthy skin. Atleast 8 glasses of water should be consumed everyday.

2. Wash you face with gentle (baby soap) soap and water atleast twice a day, preferable once in the morning and before going to the bed.

3. If you want to remove the redness and reduce the amount of itching, a baking soda paste can help you.

Try the followings home made treatment for your acne:

1.Apply Milk of Magnesia (easily available in the market) 1 on for 10 minutes. Rinse off.

2.Dissolve a teaspoon of Epsom salts (Magnesium Sulphate) in a cup of hot water. Apply to the acne areas with cotton wool. A papaya-mint tea bag dissolved in a cup of hot water and applied on the acne areas also acts as a discencrusting lotion(helps blackheads to come out easily).

3. Another effective and easy method is apply toothpaste(not gel) on your acne and leave it for over night. Next day, rinse it off. Follow this method for atleast 5 to 7 days. You will definitely notice the change.

Face pack for acne:
To 2 teaspoons of egg white, add 2 pods of crushed garlic and 1 teaspoon of calamine. Leave on face for 20 minutes, then rinse off.

After this try this homemade toner:
Add about 2 to 3 drops of Tr. of Benzotn to a mug of cold water. Rinse face with this. It is antibacterial

Moisturizer for acne skin
A bottle of rose water, 1/4 teaspoon vinegar, 5 drops of glycerin, 2 drops of camphor.

Removing acne scars:

You have already removed the acne. Congrats! but what are those red marks on your face? Don't worry, some homemade solutions can help you:

1. Apply Aloe vera juices and gels on your scars.

2. Lavender oil is also pretty productive for the removal of acne scars.

3. Vitamin E is brilliant for acne scars. If the scars are that bad you can try buying vitamin E capsules, breaking them open and using this on your skin.
